A Chinatown staple for decades, and rightfully so! Kam Hing serves up some of the best sponge cakes, and you really can't go wrong with the original flavor. Over the years, they've added some additional & rather interesting flavors (ube, pandan, lychee rose, chocolate chip, etc.), but I still prefer the OG. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, and it's still as no frills as ever. Service is quick - they have a few boxes of the dozen original ready to go. Prices now are $1 for the original, and $1.25 for flavors.

My favorite sponge cake spot in NYC. Love coming by here to see the variety of sponge cakes they have to offer and for a $1.25 each, these cakes simply do not miss. I first came by here for a yelp elite event, but I have found myself stopping by every time I find myself in chinatown or on canal street. Love to pick up a bag of 5-10 sponge cakes. They all are ready made in the morning, so its very easy to pick up. Within 10 seconds all the cakes are ready to go for you as you request. Each day has a new set of flavors (some base flavors). There is also a few milk tea drinks that are also solid, but slightly on the pricier end. There are a few tables to sit down and enjoy, and the vibes are nice, but its very easy to just pick up your cakes and head out within seconds. There is no outdoor seating. and I want to remind you to bring cash, there is an extra charge if you pay with card (but its still an option). The cakes are all great, and the subtlety in which the flavors are added is a really nice touch. If you are looking for a nice, cheap bakery item, sponge cakes from Kam Hing are on the top of my list.

Food (5/5) - Coming from Hong Kong, nothing quite like a good old sponge cake as a snack! The flavours are great and they churn them out throughout the day. Butterscotch, matcha, original are all great, and there's many more I haven't tried yet! Ambiance and Service (5/5) - Speedy and the signs are hilarious. Being a little off the main Chinatown street also means it's a little less busy outside, which is a nice respite. Price (5/5) - In this economy, getting something for $1-$1.25 is better than anything you can get even at a dollar store...

Kam Hing still has the best sponge cake on the planet. I'm not usually one to eat sponge cake but I love this business. The owners children have taken over the business. Even today, just like I did, customers ask for their mother. She's a wonderful woman and business woman. She still works weekends. Today I had the Coconut Sponge Cake. Last time I visited I sat outside but the outdoor shed has been removed. It was comfortable inside while I enjoyed my treat. I'm recommending you visit this special family owned business in Chinatown. The coffee is very reasonably priced. My sponge cake was $1.25 and that's definitely a good deal!!
